Google Podcasts accounts for just 2% of podcast listeners, BUT here’s why it is worth using…
Google Podcasts (formerly known as Google Play), is not one of the top listening platforms, but that doesn’t mean you should be using it.
In this article, I break down exactly why I think all podcasters should be using Google Podcasts.
1. It’s a free listing
Unlike some other podcast platforms, Google Podcasts is completely free to use. If you are like most podcasters, you probably don’t have a huge budget for marketing. So freebie tools and promotion opportunities like this are fantastic and you should make the most of them.
2. It gets your podcast featured in Google search
It’s no secret that Google loves it when you use their own products. If you use Google Podcasts, then your podcast will be listed in their special podcast search tool and on their app.
3. It’s a podcasting directory
Many apps use Google to power their search functions. So, in addition to getting your podcast on Google search and Google Podcasts, by listing through the platform you are also unlocking the potential for it to be used by other podcast listening app and services.
Google Podcasts will also boost your SEO (search engine optimisation). This means it will be easier for new listeners to discover your podcast.
And don’t forget the in-home smart devices too! Imagine how cool it would be to say “Hey Google, play my podcast”!
4. Google Podcasts is universal
Whereas some other podcast tools work only with specific devices or systems, Google Podcast is compatible on almost every device and web browser, including Android, iOS, MacOS, Windows, Blackberry, and ChromeOS.
5. Transcribe your episodes
Google Podcasts also has a nifty transcription feature. This is a speech-to-text transcription tool which can be used to add closed captioning to your podcast for those with hearing impairments and translate it into multiple languages.
So while Google Podcasts is a small player in the actual market share of podcast listeners, we think it is well worth using.
